Baker Cruz Services is a family owned business specializing in translation and interpretation for small businesses and nonprofits, We have a unique founding story and created this business out of a desire to expand access to Hispanic and Latinx audiences in the Greater Laurel (Baltimore-DC) region.
I (Lindsey) have worked in the field of non-profits since 2002. I began my time as an intern with Delaware State Museums my freshman year at Goucher College. I fell in love with the work and held more internships throughout my time at Goucher and then graduate school at the University of Delaware than I can count. Since 2008, I have worked in the field of non-profits as an Executive Director. As I grew in my career, I began to understand more and more what I valued in non-profit work. Expanding the inclusivity of the histories that are told, increasing access for audiences who are often overlooked, and building capacity within organizations to maintain the highest possible standards. In my professional and personal life, I often saw the disconnect between Latinx audiences and clientele and the non-profits and businesses that were not ready to serve or receive them. There was a desire to do better, but no tools to make it happen. In other words, organizations and businesses wanted to expand access, but they simply did not have the capacity or ability to do so. In talking through the issues I saw with my husband, Danny, I realized that combined we have the skill sets necessary to bridge that gap. I have the expertise in how non-profits work and many of the skills that translate from being an Executive Director for 11 years apply to running a small business. Danny has the knowledge, expertise, and experience in translation and interpretation work. We are both incredibly hard workers and trust one another's timeliness and work ethic. Combined we plan to expand access to Latinx audiences through translation and interpretation services. Interested in learning more?
